For example, a student seeking power might disrupt class, or one craving belonging might act out to get peer attention. Glasser argued that traditional discipline often focuses on punishment, which is ineffective because it doesn't address the underlying unmet needs. Instead, educators should strive to create a classroom environment where students can meet their needs responsibly and positively, fostering intrinsic motivation and reducing the need for disruptive behaviors. Understanding these fundamental needs is key to effective classroom management and building positive student relationships.
