This approach teaches students to discriminate between appropriate and inappropriate actions, making the desired behaviors more likely to occur in the future. For instance, a teacher might praise a student for raising their hand quietly (desired) but ignore instances where the student calls out (undesired). The key is consistency, ensuring that positive actions receive attention and rewards, while disruptive or off-task behaviors do not receive the attention they might be seeking.
