In contrast, Antivirus software is designed to detect, prevent, and remove malicious software such as viruses, worms, and Trojans, but it doesn't regulate network traffic or block unauthorized access attempts at the network perimeter. A Gateway is a network device that connects two different networks, often performing protocol translation, facilitating communication but not inherently providing the access control functions of a firewall. Flow control is a mechanism used in data communication to manage the rate of data transmission between two nodes to prevent a fast sender from overwhelming a slow receiver, focusing on data integrity and efficiency rather than security against unauthorized access. Therefore, the firewall is the dedicated solution for protecting against unauthorized network access.
