There isn’t one single sport universally recognized as designed exclusively for both genders to play simultaneously. However, there are several sports that encourage or require mixed-gender participation:
- Korfball: This Dutch sport is often considered the only truly mixed-gender team sport. Teams consist of eight players, with four men and four women on the court at a time.
- Mixed Doubles: This format exists in various racket sports like tennis, badminton, table tennis, and squash. Teams consist of one man and one woman competing against another mixed doubles team.
- Mixed Relay Races: Events like swimming, triathlon, and athletics have relay races where teams incorporate both men and women.
- Mixed-Gender Variations: Some sports have variations specifically designed for mixed participation. For example, some recreational leagues might offer co-ed softball or touch rugby versions.
While these examples promote mixed-gender play, they might not be strictly “designed” for it in the way other sports are structured.
