What is Law GAT?
The Law Graduate Assessment Test (LAW-GAT) is a mandatory exam conducted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan through ETC for law graduates seeking enrollment as an Advocate with any Bar Council in Pakistan. The test assesses a candidate’s knowledge of law and professional ethics before they are allowed to practice law.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must have a LLB degree (5 years or equivalent) from an HEC-recognized university.
- Both local and foreign law graduates can apply.
- There is no limit to the number of attempts.
LAW GAT Syllabus (100 MCQs)
The syllabus includes 6 core areas of law with the following distribution:

Registration Process
- Visit the HEC Portal: etc.hec.gov.pk
- Create a profile or log in.
- Apply for the Law GAT under “Available Tests.”
- Upload your documents and pay the fee (usually Rs. 3000–5000).
- Download your roll number slip before test day.
